By mid-2000, it seemed like his face was everywhere. He was an average-looking kid, usually wearing a T-shirt and grubby jeans and smiling in a shy, almost sly way. He was muscular. He always had on a baseball cap. He looked like the type of guy you'd find sitting next to you in algebra class, or like the guy down the street who owned a Camaro. But before you knew it, you'd see his picture in another magazine. This time, he was wearing an abviously brand-new suit, with his hair cut short and very neat. Now, he looked like the kid on the fast track; a kid who understood the power of first impressions.
None of the photos seemed to match. The magazines were tossing out adjectives to descrive him right and left, but they didn't seem to match, either. "Gearhead", one called him. Others said he was a "super-genius." His name was Shawn Fanning. And according to the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, he was "the most dangerous man in the music biz."
