Product Description
South Australia was established as a British province on 28 December 1836. This was authorised by the Imperial Parliament in London, which has passed The South Australia Colonisation Act two years earlier. Until then the land was part of the New South Wales colony; however, it had never been occupied by Europeans. Unlike other Australian colonies, South Australia was specifically for free settlers, not convicts. For two years after settlement, government was shared between the governor and the resident commissioner. A Legislative Council was established in 1838 with all members appointed.
