Product Description

Humans have smoked tobacco for a long time. There is evidence of smoking in the Maya civilization of Central America, where tobacco originated, as long ago as AD500. It was brought to Europe by the explorers of the 16th century - Sir Walter Ralegh, for example, organized a massive tobacco shipment to England from the West Indies. However, it was the invention of a machine to manufacture cigarettes at the end of the 19th century that made smoking so widespread in the 20th. Cigarette consumption rose steadily to 1945, when it also became more common for women to smoke.
