Before September 11, 2001, the majority of Americans were unfamiliar with the name Osama Bin Laden. After the terrorist attacks, however, they had many questions about him. In some ways, bin Laden is a man of mystery. At the very least, he's a man of many contradictions. Physically, Osama bin Laden is almost frail looking. He's quite tall - about six feet five inches - and so thin that he is gaunt. He often walks with the aid of a cane and appears older than he actually is. By many accounts, he is soft-spoken and perhaps even shy. Despite his fragile appearance and gentle manner, however, bin Laden clearly has a commanding presence. He comes from an extremely wealthy family, yet he has spent many years living in mountain caves. While he now openly hates all things American, he was once an ally of the United States.
