Judaism is the way Jews of the Hellenistic world described their manner of serving God. Other Jews at other times and places have used different terms, which some prefer today. Still, Judaism is the term used widely and respectfuly by most Jews and non-Jews alike to designate the religious life of Israel, God's holy people. Judaism, in all its varieties, is a way of life observed by Jewish people for nearly 3,300 years, beginning when God chose Abraham, the ancestral Father of Israel, from among all the nations. The Jewish people consider themselves descendants of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah and Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah.
