Some aspects of everyday technology are so normal that we forget all about them. We expect firefighters to wear clothing that doesn't catch fire. After all, who'd go to fight a fire wearing clothing that catches fire? We expect to go to the beach and put on sunscreen, knowing that it will protect us from the sun's radiation for a couple of hours. We expect that when we flush the toilet, the waste is carried away in seweage pipes to a sewerage plant where it is treated and cleaned before being released into the sea. We expect to see huge combine harvesters collecting the wheat on Australian farms. All of these things seem normal and logical.
