Peregrine falcons are the fastest animals on Earth. When flying in a dive, or stooping, to catch its prey, a peregrine falcon can reach a speed of more than 300 kilometres an hour. In level flight, a peregrine falcon can fly at a maximum speed of around 100 kilometres an hour. Other birds, such as swifts, can fly faster than this in level flight.
