Product Description

Harry Leslie Smith is a British stalwart; he is a survivor of the Great Depression, a Second World War RAF veteran and now, aged 92, he is a social activist for the poor and the preservation of social democracy. Following the overwhelming success of Harry's Last Stand, his new memoir, Don't Let My Past Be Your Future, is a survival guide for today's generations who need hope from someone who has seen Britain face both the Great Depression and the Second World War. It is a manifesto for the left to rebuild itself with integrity after its shattering defeat in the 2015 General Election.

Don't Let My Past Be Your Future also has a much wider and more enduring appeal - at its heart is a homage to the boundless grace and resilience of the human spirit to overcome poverty, war, oppression, economic and social injustice and to build a more perfect society. It is about the here and now, and how there are elements from our near and far history that can make life bearable and fulfilling. This new book is for both today's youth and disaffected middle agers who want a voice of reason to provide not only optimism but a step by step guide to survive the next 5 years. It is a memoir about surviving difficult times with one's dignity and optimism for humanity and its future intact.Harry Leslie Smith is a British stalwart; he is a survivor of the Great Depression, a Second World War RAF veteran and now, aged 92, he is a social activist for the poor and the preservation of social democracy. In November 2013, 91-year-old Yorkshireman, RAF veteran and ex-carpet salesman Harry Leslie Smith's Guardian article - 'This year, I will wear a poppy for the last time' - was shared almost 60,000 times on Facebook and started a huge debate about the state of society. Harry Leslie Smith continues to champion the poor and the preservation of social democracy. He has authored numerous books about Britain during the Great Depression, the Second World War and postwar austerity, including Harry's Last Stand. He lives outside Toronto, Canada and in Yorkshire.
