Born Goyathlay ("one who yawns"), the boy who would eventually be known as Geronimo showed promise early on as a skilled hunter. As an adult, he quickly became a legendary warrior and leader of the Chiricahua tribe of the Apache Indians. With the United States expanding into Mexican territory, followed by the building of railroads across the country, the Apaches were feeling the push from all sides.
