Product Description
In the winter of 2005, a snowshoe factory in Vermont shut down operations. The employees were matter-of-fact about the news. They knew it was coming. Tubbs Snowshoes in Stowe, Vermont, had been in business since 1906, but despite a great reputation and successful new innovations in snowshoe design, the business could not compete with companies already manufacturing in China. The owner sold the business to K2, the sporting goods conglomerate, which operates a manufacturing complex in Guangzhou, China. Wages and operating costs are much lower in China than in Vermont, so the snowshoes would now be made in Guangzhou.
