It was on this day that the famous Hindenburg blimp was to land in Lakehurst after making a trip from Germany and crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Larger than the Titanic and the length of three football fields, the Hindenburg was the largest airship ever. Built during Adolf Hitler's reign of power, this immense blimp featured gigantic Nazi swastikas on its tail fins. If all went well, the Hindenburg would be used for luxury travel to and from America and Europe, becoming the first transatlantic commercial airliner.
