Charles Rolly and Henry Royce first met in 1904. Both men lived in England. Rolls liked to race cars, and he also sold them. Royce was an engineer who made cars.
Back then, cars had only been around for a short time. People were still figuring out the best way to make them. Many cars were noisy and unreliable. Royce's cars were different. They were quiet and ran well.
Rolls wanted to form his own car company. He was impressed with Royce's cars. Rolls and Royce became partners. They started a company called Rolly-Royce.
