Product Description

Tissot is best known for his brilliant pictures of English and French society in the 1860s and 1870s, depicting in minute detail the ravishing costumes, decorative interiors and riverside scenes of the period. From 1871 until 1882 he lived in London, and during this time both his art and his life became dominated by his beautiful mistress, Kathleen Newton. Following her tragically early death in 1882 Tissot returned to Paris, where a dramatic religious conversion a few years later brought him even greater fame as a painter of religious subjects.
