Product Description

Paul Roos is a leader, a legend, an AFL icon who transcends the game itself. As a first-rate player, a premiership-winning coach and an in-demand commentator, Roos has achieved extraordinary success on and off the field over more than thirty years in footy. During his 356 games as a player, Roos witnessed first-hand the harsh treatment dished out to players by time-poor, hard-nosed coaches. Roos wondered if there was a better way to nurture talent and empower players to build a champion team. When he finally hung up his footy boots in 1998, Paul walked away from the game with a list of 25 key coaching points that he hoped one day to put into practice. In 2002, he was appointed head coach of the Sydney Swans. In 2005 he led the Swans to their historic drought-breaking premiership victory by following his own coaching and leadership philosophy. In this candid book, Paul not only reveals his 25 coaching tips but also, for the first time, shares the original premiership blueprint he presented to the Swans board in 2002. It was this presentation, with its foundation of positivity and unity, that convinced the Swans to give Roos his first coaching opportunity. Drawing on his experience from 268 games as a coach, Paul shares his insights about keeping perspective, motivating people and the importance of strong communication skills to achieve results. Paul reveals how he took his original plan and the lessons learned while coaching the Swans to rebuild the Melbourne Demons, a club that was on its knees, when he answered the call to coach. The book also covers infamous incidents from Roos' coaching career, including the stories behind his relationships with hard-headed premiership captain Barry Hall and former AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou. Roos also details the intricate strategies involved in re-shaping all areas of the Melbourne Football Club. Roos is a leader for our times sharing his vision for how empathy and strong relationships can inspire any team to reach for victory - together. Part sporting memoir, part leadership game plan, this book is a masterclass from one of the all-time greats.Paul Roos is a leader, a legend, an AFL icon who transcends the game itself.
