Earth gets most of its heat from the sun. The sun gives off heat and light, which are energy. Some of the sun's energy reaches Earth. Some of this energy is reflected, or bounced back, into space. Earth's surface also absorbs and stores some of the energy as heat. When Earth's surface and atmosphere become warm, they give off, or radiate, heat back into space. This helps keep Earth from becoming too hot or too cold.
