Goodbye Cobber, God Bless You is the acclaimed account of one of the bravest, and most futile, actions of the Gallipoli campaign - the 3rd Light Horse brigade's tragic charge at The Nek. On August 7th, 1915, four waves of Australian troopers attempted to rush the Turkish trenches at The Nek, armed only with rifles, boyonets and raw courage. As each wave was successively slaughtered, those waiting their turn knew they were going to die, yet none held back. Just before the order was given to send the third line, Trooper Harold Rush turned to his mate standing next to him and said 'Goodbye Cobber, God Bless You'. These words appear on his headstone, in the little cemetery near the scene of the charge.
