As many as ten million females and one million males suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, reports the National Eating Disorders Association. And about four million people have binge eating disorder, according to the National Institutes of Health. Unlike other eating disorders, which affect mostly girls and women, binge eating is very common in males. A 1998 study found that about 40 percent of people with binge eating disorder are male.
