This title explores the changing ideas about the culture of ordinary people since World War II, including historians' opinions on the importance of pop culture, the effects of media technology on cultural products like fashion and film, and how Australia's national identity is represented in pop culture. Units about everyday issues like housing and holidays, subcultures, sport and censorship reflect the insights that historians can gain by studying pop culture. Students will examine key events such as the arrival of television in 1956 and the Vietnam War and consider pop culture from the perspectives of the Baby Boomers and Generations X, Y and Z. Students are also provided with a scaffolded activity to guide them through preparing an essay plan about representations of Australian identity in film.
